“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” —Ephesians 2:8-10
It is important for us to remember that it is by the amazing grace of God that we are saved and not by our works. When we first come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior this truth is so beautifully real to us it woos us into our new life with Christ. The old is gone the new has come (2 Cor. 5:17)! What a glorious day it is! When we die to self and are resurrected to new life in Christ as a child of the living God.
Yet for many of us, somewhere along the way our old mindset of striving creeps in and we find ourselves clawing toward our destiny instead of resting in it. We have this longing within us to measure up and feel like we are enough for God. When God begins to reveal His plan for our life we can easily slip into the comparison trap of not feeling good enough, qualified enough, smart enough, and all other kinds of enoughs.
It’s important that we remember that it was never about our works, rather, it’s all about His grace working through our faith. As believers, we enter a life of faith, not sight. We need to allow the ministry of the Holy Spirit to shed from us that old wineskin as we enter into this divine, supernatural faith walk as a born-again believer.
God wants you to know today that you’re not just enough—you’re more than enough. Jesus didn’t die because of your strengths and what you bring to the table. He died for you because of your weaknesses and limitations! So that He could bring Himself to the table to empower, equip and ransom you once and for all to the Father!
Something the Lord has been speaking so gently to me lately is His desire that I move beyond my own question of “Am I enough” to a life postured in response to that same question Jesus is asking me, “Am I enough for you”.
FRIEND, Jesus asks this question over you today. Through all your doubt and feelings of inadequacy, Jesus is calling out to you now, “Am I enough for you?” Mary ran to the feet of Jesus and poured out her finest perfume. Jesus was enough for her. The woman with the issue of blood pressed through the crowd to merely get a touch of the hym of His robe—Jesus was enough for her. Can Jesus be enough for you? Could He be everything? Can He be the one your soul longs for? Even if you never “accomplished” anything else in life, could Jesus be your greatest gain? I have resolved that in my own life friend, that Jesus is everything. He is enough and therefore, I know I am enough too.
TODAY: Allow the acceptance of Christ to refresh and water your soul.
