“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba,Father.’” —Romans 8:14-15 NIV
How many are longing to know God more? You long for a deeper intimacy with Him? Maybe you don’t quite know how to get there. You’ve been praying, reading your Bible, doing all the right things and you’ve seen growth in your life, but there’s this deep longing you can’t explain that just wants more.
Friend, I want to encourage you today—that deep hunger is a good thing! It isn’t some kind of indicator that you’re far from God and it’s not there to intimidate you into believing that closer intimacy with God is unataibable… it’s there to draw you deeper!
God draws all men unto Himself (John 12:32).
God is crazy about you friend. He is drawing you to Himself. That deep hunger inside isn’t meant to frustrate you its meant to bring you to your knees. When you proclaim Him Lord of your life… when you receive Him… you become a child of God!
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God–” —John 1:12 NIV
And as our key verse for today proclaims, when you are His child you are given the spirit of Sonship. And that spirit inside of you creates a deep longing to know Him more… His spirit in you appeals to your spirit to go deeper with Him. There is so much more of God to know friend. We could spend our entire life in His presence and still there would be more! God is BIG! He is sovereign. He is in everything and all things hold together by Him (Col. 1:17).
What a gift we have been given to have His spirit inside of us drawing us to Him.
Drawing us deeper.
Drawing us higher.
What a gift that if we’ll only listen and then respond we will never grow cold… we will never grow weak or weary or complacent… if we’ll simply listen and respond to the nudging from within. The nudging that whispers to our soul, “There’s more…”
So today I challenge you—if you’ve been experiencing this deep hunger to know Him more set aside some time today, even now, and rest in His presence.
Put on some worship music and ask Him to surround you.
Say, “I am here Lord. I am desperate to know you more. My soul hungers and thirsts for you.” I love the Psalms because so many of them reflect the deep longing of David to know God more. He was considered by God to be a man after His own heart and with that heart David was desperate to know God deeper and more true and pure. He wasn’t satisfied. He hungered. He thirsted. He tasted. And He saw God come to Him time and again.
When I was fifteen years old I was desperate to know God more. I needed Him. I was broken. And He met me right where I was at. He wrapped His big loving arms around me and breathed life into my dry and weary bones. He spoke life into my destiny. He held me in His arms for hours and hours. When I woke up the next morning I was a new creation. I was whole. I had encountered God so deeply that for the first time I understood what it was for my spirit to cry out, “Abba, Father”. I knew Him as Abba. I had experienced first hand His deep love for me. You can read more about my testimony in a previous devotional, “When You’re Desperate To Encounter God“.
God wants to give you a fresh encounter today. Maybe you’ve never had an encounter with Him first hand or maybe it’s been a long time—years perhaps. Either way, God desires you to know Him more too friend! Just as deeply as you want to know Him, you and He share the same longing.
Today I release fresh encounters of the radical love of your Father over each and every one reading this! Fire of God fall on your children today. Let a fresh wind of the Holy Spirit revive even the driest of hearts. Bring to life that which has died! Let no obstacle stand in the way of your precious children encountering You afresh and anew today Abba. Let my testimony bring hope to the hopeless and life to those who are dry and weary. Let your children know what it is to cry “Abba, Father“. In the Mighty Name of Jesus, the Name that is above every other name (Phil. 2:9), Amen.
I love you,
Krissy
P.S. How can I be praying for you today?
